University mourns the loss of Professor Keith Shaw

8 June 2015

A key academic and former Dean, Professor Keith Shaw, has passed away.

Keith Shaw was a distinguished economist, a graduate of the London School of Economics and Columbia where he received his PhD. He served the University for many years as a Professor of Economics and (from 1983 to 1990) as Dean of the School of Accounting Business and Economics. He published in the field of fiscal policy and acted as a consultant to many international organisations.

In addition to his individual research he co-authored books and papers with Professor Alan Peacock and wrote a major textbook on Macroeconomics with Professor David Greenaway. He remained an Emeritus Professor after his retirement although his visits were greatly limited by his declining health.

Professor of Economic Organisation, Martin Ricketts, said: “Keith Shaw played a major role in establishing the Department of Economics at Buckingham from the early 1980s onwards. He was an authority on Fiscal Policy, and students and staff alike will remember with affection not only his formidable intellect but his unique sense of humour.”

All his friends and colleagues at the University send their sincere condolences to his wife, Zchina Dowlatshahi (Business Studies ’85), and family.
