Samh Jain wins Student Athlete of the Year award

We are delighted to share that MB ChB Medicine student Samh Jain has won the Student Athlete of the Year award in the international Keystone Awards.

The online awards ceremony was held on Thursday 10 March, and hosted by Fredrik Hogemark, Chief Executive Officer, and Saba Davenport, Chief Marketing Officer at Keystone Education Group. They described Samh as ‘a truly inspiring young athlete.’

Congratulating Samh on his outstanding achievement, Professor Joanne Selway, Pro-Faculty Dean of the School of Medicine, stated:

“Samh exemplifies the very best of what it means to be a student athlete, seamlessly balancing the demands of a rigorous medical degree with outstanding achievements in endurance sports.

Samh’s dedication, resilience, and leadership – both on the track and in medical settings – serve as an inspiration to peers and the wider University community.”

Student Athlete of the Year

Samh admirably balances his studies with a passion and exceptional talent for endurance sports. He represents Buckingham in regional, national and international triathlons, having achieved a first-place finish in a regional competition, and he also participates in Ironman events.

His sporting interests support his passion for medical science. Samh took part in the Brutal Extreme Triathlon in Snowdon, raising a significant amount of money for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). He also works as a volunteer responder with GoodSam and Doctors Without Borders, where he applies his teamwork skills in real-world medical scenarios. He has already administered medical care in two incidents, including assisting paramedics during a cardiac arrest incident in London.

Speaking on his award win, Samh explained:

“I’m incredibly honoured to receive this Keystone Award. I hope my win inspires future students to see that with passion and persistence, it’s absolutely possible to strike a balance and excel both academically and athletically.”
