The University of Buckingham is awarded Times University of the Year Award for Teaching Quality
18 September 2015
The University of Buckingham has received the ultimate accolade – The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year for Teaching Quality 2015 – 16.
This is the culmination of a decade in which the University has consistently led the way with the most satisfied students, according to the National Student Survey (NSS).
The University, which has jumped ten places to 38 in the rankings, and is now in the top third for overall quality, is one of just six UK Universities being awarded in different categories in this year’s Times and Sunday Times University Guide, which comes out on Sunday (20th).
Sir Anthony Seldon, the new Vice-Chancellor, said: “This is an outstanding achievement for one of the country’s smallest universities. We treat our students as individuals and have an open door policy when it comes to seeing lecturers and seeking any sort of help.
“Buckingham is known for its Oxbridge-style tutorials, which our students tell us make study both enjoyable and rewarding. Our staff:student ratio, one of the best in the country, means that lecturers get to know students very well and can help them with finding a job as well as studying. Therefore it’s not surprising we top the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) poll for graduate employability, ahead of Oxford and Cambridge. This is no doubt helped by our two-year undergraduate degrees being looked upon very favourably by employers.
“We are extremely fortunate to have such wonderful students at Buckingham – they make the job of lecturing a pleasure rather than a chore and their enthusiasm and drive help to make Buckingham one of the happiest and most successful universities in the country.”
The University of Buckingham, which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year, is ranked first for employability excluding specialist institutions, Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) figures reveal. It has the safest campus (Complete University Guide 2016) and is first for Student Satisfaction excluding specialist institutions (National Student Survey (NSS) 2015). It is first for upholding Free Speech (Spiked Magazine Poll). It is second out of 126 universities for staff: student ratio – (Complete University Guide 2016), 7th in Psychology out of 112 universities (The Guardian University League Table 2016) and 7th in Politics out of 77 universities (The Guardian University League Table 2016).
