8 February 2017
Barbara Lasic, “Ethnicity”, in P. McNeil (ed.), A Cultural History of Fashion Vol.4: The Age of Enlightenment (1650-1800) (London: Bloomsbury Academic, 2016).
A Cultural History of Dress and Fashion presents an authoritative survey from ancient times to the present. This set of six volumes covers over 2,500 years of dress and fashion.
Dr Lasic’s chapter is an examination of how global trades in luxuries and manufactured consumer goods inflected the design of eighteenth-century dress in France. The essay interrogates fashion’s ongoing dialogue with exoticism and otherness.
