Buckingham’s new Moot Room holds inaugural mock trial
11 November 2024
The Dean of Law, Professor Adolfo Paolini, and Clinical Legal Education team of the Law School, recently hosted the inaugural mock Crown Court trial in the newly commissioned Moot Room with the support of Buckingham alumni HH Judge Siddique, HH Judge Murch and Emily Lauchlan, Foundry Chambers.
The students tackled the fictitious case where the Defendant was charged with possession of a bladed weapon in a public place. HH Judge Siddique acted as the Trial Judge. HH Judge Murch supported the Prosecution team and Criminal Defence Barrister Emily Lauchlan mentored the students acting as Defence Counsel.
Students took on additional roles of the Defendant, witnesses, Court Usher, Court Clerk and the Jury. The event showcased student’s advocacy skills and all involved received valuable feedback from the alumni team.
The recent mock trial was followed by a guest speaker session which was equally inspiring with the speakers’ enthusiasm and dedication to their #careersattheBar and within the Judiciary leaving a significant impact on the students.
Future collaborations are planned for 2025.
