Your legacy
Remember Buckingham in your will
Many describe their time at Buckingham like becoming part of a family. Friendships and bonds made at Buckingham last for a lifetime and with a legacy gift, the impact can be felt for many generations to come.
Legacies and bequests have played a vital part in the formation and history of The University of Buckingham. Legacy giving is easy, flexible and tax efficient. It doesn’t cost a penny during your lifetime.
Today a growing number choose to recognise the sense of close community by including a gift to Buckingham in their will. Even a small share of your estate could make a big difference to the University, whilst safeguarding both your intentions and the interests of your loved ones.
We recommend that you seek legal advice at the earliest stage of writing a will.
Types of legacy
There are many choices of legacy:
- A percentage of your estate after other debts have been cleared (a residuary legacy)
- A specified sum of money (a pecuniary legacy)
- An item of value, such as a painting, artefact, manuscript etc (a specific legacy)
- You may wish to provide for your family or a loved one first and then for any remaining gift to be passed to The University of Buckingham after their death (a reversionary legacy)
Tax Efficient
Gifts to charities, such as The University of Buckingham, are exempt from Inheritance Tax (IHT). If your gift is for more than 10% of your estate, then Inheritance Tax is reduced from 40% to 36%. Whichever way you preferred means of giving, you can rest assured that your gift will be in good hands.
