Dylan Lloyd (BSc Psychology)
I joined the University of Buckingham in September 2016 and finished in December 2018 with a First Class degree in Psychology, awarded with the “best all-rounder” prize at the time. Due to my academic accomplishments in Psychology and the help from all the brilliant members of staff at the university I was able to enrol in Medicine in 2019 and am due to graduate in June 2023. I initially chose the University of Buckingham due to its small tutorial style teaching and credit it with my continued academic performance.
My story differs as I had wanted to pursue Medicine and opted to choose Psychology as the route into this degree. Buckingham prepared me for my Medical degree not only through the course content but also through instilling important academic skills in me. The ability to develop and conduct research independently is something everyone working in science should have a good foundation in and the skills I acquired have helped me take part in numerous research projects throughout my medical degree. I feel the University of Buckingham has allowed me to develop skills I not only use every day but will continue to use throughout my medical career. This degree has provided me with a unique outlook on patient experience I would not have achieved with other degrees.
The 2-year degree was ideal for me as it provided an efficient route into Medicine whilst simultaneously allowing me to develop skills required for Medicine such as writing my dissertation or interviewing patients. An undergraduate degree allows me to further maximise my future applications even before graduating from medical school. I thoroughly enjoyed my time doing psychology at the University of Buckingham and feel the additional life experience has made me a better student and hopefully a better doctor.
