BUSCIS and South and South East Asia Security Research Centre (SSEASRC)
24 October 2024
Our regional research agenda at The University of Buckingham continued apace recently with the online symposium on China, ASEAN and security in the South China Sea, hosted jointly by the Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies (BUCSIS) at Buckingham, and the Center for Security, Strategy and Policy Research (CSSPR) at the University of Lahore, Pakistan. An excellent discussion, with speakers and participants from the UK, India, Pakistan, Japan and South Korea, building on our growing global network of security scholars and researchers.
Particular thanks go to our partner, Dr Rabia Akhtar, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Lahore and Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs; Khan Hasham Bin Saddique HI(M) SI(M), former vice admiral of the Pakistan navy and diplomat; Dr Dhananjay Tripathi, Associate Professor at the South Asia University’s Department of International Relations in New Delhi; Dr Sam Man Chung, Director of the Centre for Maritime Security at the Korea Institute of Maritime Security in Seoul; Ann Bajo, former defence analyst in the Philippines and doctoral candidate at the University of Portsmouth in the UK; and Dr Kazuhiro Tobisawa, Senior Fellow of BUCSIS at The University of Buckingham and convener of the Daisaku Ikeda Academic Society for United Nations Studies (DIASUNS) in Tokyo.
All of your contributions were extremely insightful and help to drive forwards our understanding of strategies for regional and global security. Watch out for news of a proceedings publication.
