Life in the UK
The University, banks and other services and businesses adopt a 09:00 – 17:00 working day. Shops are generally open from 09:00 – 17:30 but some supermarkets are open late at night or even for 24 hours. Restaurants and pubs tend to shut at 23:30.
Tap water in the UK is generally safe to drink. If it isn’t it will have a clear notice, for example, water on trains is not safe and will have a notice stating “not for drinking”. It is advisable not to use water from the hot tap for making drinks.
British attitudes to sexuality may be different from your own and may be more relaxed. You are free to live by your own personal standards and should not feel pressured to change.
If there are any issues you may be concerned about, please do not hesitate to contact the International Office who are always on hand to help.
