Pre-Sessional English Programme
Overview
Our English Foundation Programme offers a structured pathway for international students to achieve the English language proficiency required for their chosen academic courses. The programme is tailored for students whose current level of English does not meet the university’s entry requirements. It focuses on developing critical language skills through three core modules: Academic Listening and Speaking, Academic Writing, and Academic Reading and Grammar.
Who is this Programme for?
This programme is specifically designed for international students who need to improve their English language skills before commencing their degree programmes at the University of Buckingham. It is not a standalone course and cannot be applied for independently. Instead, it is available to students whose English proficiency is assessed as below the required standard for direct entry into their chosen programmes.
Programme Structure
- Academic Listening and Speaking: Enhances listening and speaking skills, equips students with note-taking strategies and helps them participate effectively in academic discussions and presentations.
- Academic Writing: Develops critical writing skills, promotes academic integrity and prepares students for academic essay writing and argumentation.
- Academic Reading and Grammar: Focuses on critical reading, complex grammatical structures and the ability to analyse and evaluate academic texts.
Assessment Methods
- Listening comprehension tests and presentations for Academic Listening and Speaking
- Portfolios and essays for Academic Writing
- Grammar and reading comprehension tests, alongside a vocabulary notebook for Academic Reading and Grammar
Admission and Fees
The Pre-Sessional English Programme is offered to students as part of their main offer when their English language proficiency needs improvement.
