Law Taster

You are invited to join us online to discover what it is like to be a Law student at Buckingham.

Taster Theme

Each taster includes a themed session, so you can experience what it is like to attend a Law tutorial as a Buckingham student

The taster’s theme is: ‘Does white collar crime matter?‘.

Science says climate change and global warming are heating and freezing the planet. Can corporations and their directors and chief executive officers be held to account if they pollute the atmosphere, the ocean, the landscape with CO2 and waste? Can governments be held to account if they breach a duty of care toward young people whose wellbeing may be threatened?

White collar crime (crimes carried out by the rich and powerful, the people in suits) may be applied to environmental acts that threaten the Earth. Exploring the possibility through cases in the UK, the Netherlands, France, the US and Australia provides an international feast of how the law might work.

What will you experience at this taster?

  • A themed tutorial session.
  • Discover how studying Law at Buckingham is unique because of our small group teaching, flexible entry points in both September and January, and your opportunity to complete your degree within two years.
  • Find out about our broad range of extra-curricular opportunities to develop your professional skills and experience of legal practice.
  • Speak to a member of our law academic team and current student via online chat, and ask any questions you may have.

Who is this taster for?

Are you an aspiring solicitor or barrister?

Or, perhaps you want to work in compliance or financial services?

In addition to the themed tutorial session, in this webinar you’ll find out how the LLB at Buckingham, delivered over two years, will support you in achieving your career ambitions.

For those interested in qualifying as a solicitor in the UK, the webinar will explain the recent introduction of SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examinations) and how our law degrees help prepare you for these professional exams, enabling you to choose the accelerated SQE1 preparation courses after graduation. Our innovative and diverse curriculum also contributes to preparation for the practice orientated SQE2, both SQE1 and SQE2 being necessary for qualification as a solicitor.

For those students wishing to qualify as an English barrister, we will explain how our law degrees (single or combined honours) satisfy the academic component of Bar training, the necessary first step to qualifying as an English barrister.

Our LLB also satisfies the necessary first step for qualifying as a lawyer in various common law jurisdictions, including Canada, Nigeria, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. In addition, we often accommodate the additional requirements needed to practise in some other common law countries and, if you are an overseas student, we are willing to explore what modules you will need to qualify for your jurisdiction.

This is a live online event. To attend, please register and you will then receive a link to this Zoom event.  A recording will be available on request following the event.
