Professor Nigel Adams is first Director of the Buckingham Enterprise and Innovation Unit (BEIU), at The University of Buckingham.
Between 2018 and 2023, the Buckingham Enterprise & Innovation Unit (BEIU) was responsible for successfully managing the expenditure of the €2 million donated to the University by a successful alumna. The Unit started to create and develop enterprising and innovative education and other projects in and around The University of Buckingham. Examples included Enterprise for All, B-Enterprising, the Initiative for African Trade, the Student Financing Project, Entfest, Lawfest and Outreach Programmes.
As a result, Innovation and Entrepreneurship is one of the main strategies of the University from 2023 to 2028.
BEIU plans to build on the success of these first enterprising and innovative projects, so has been working with many people in the university to identify new projects. These projects include topological data analysis and deep learning for the detection of fakes and affordable mobile-learning training for teachers in low-income communities in the global south and other projects.
In addition to strategy, Nigel teaches, advises and mentors undergraduate and post-graduate students, especially medical students. He advises, supports, and encourages local people who want to start a business or grow their businesses. He also works with local schools and academies to help develop and encourage their students to become more innovative and enterprising.
Nigel also carries out some enterprise education research, for example a longitudinal study into the effects of the enterprise education programmes on the entrepreneurial self-efficacy of students and graduates. Nigel is also looking for ways in which more women can be persuaded to study on practical enterprise and entrepreneurship programmes.
Nigel maintains contact with the world of start-up and scale-up businesses through social media, networking (real and virtual) and local start-up and SME organisations. He is an active member of Enterprise Educators and is well known in other enterprise/entrepreneurship education organisations.
Between 2002 and 2011 he was the Managing Director of Nigel Adams & Company Ltd, (https://nigeladams.com/services/) which provided practical international marketing and management advice and support to British companies, helping them to establish and on develop operations or outsource in Central and Eastern Europe, especially in Poland.
