Gary has been a visiting lecturer at Buckingham since 2021. He trained as a chemical engineer and worked in the steel, chemicals and property industries. Originally in a technical role he moved on to factory management, and became increasingly involved in dealing with companies’ environmental and social impacts. For ten years he carried the responsibility for sustainability-related issues for a listed multinational group of businesses based in Johannesburg. Having now left corporate life he researches, writes, teaches and advises in the area of corporate sustainability and selected management and other fields.
He is a Chartered Engineer, holding the qualifications of BScEng (Chemical), BEng Hons (Water utilisation) and GDE Civil (Project management). To these he has added DipTh and BTh (Arts), MPhil (Environmental Management), and PhD in Leadership and Management. He’s a member of the adjunct faculty of Milpark Business School in Johannesburg, and carries Recognised Teacher Status at Cranfield University. A member of the British Academy of Management, when not at his desk he can usually be found reading, fishing, hiking or spending time with family.
