    Course breakdown

You will have access to an online course and every week for 37 weeks you will read about the topic for that week and discuss it with your mentor (the teacher in your school who is supporting you). You will teach a lesson observed by your mentor, you will reflect on your performance and write material onto the online platform.

The syllabus is based on the English Teachers’ Standards:

    1. Setting high expectations of pupils
    2. Promoting good progress and outcomes of pupils
    3. Demonstrating good subject knowledge.
    4. Plan and teach well-structured lessons.
    5. Adapt teaching to respond to the needs and strengths of pupils.
    6. Make accurate and productive use of assessment.
    7. Manage behaviour effectively.
    8. Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
    9. Demonstrate high standards of personal and professional conduct.

    Teaching and assessment

    Teaching methods

    The teaching methods are:
*an online platform with reading materials
    *lectures and talks
*feedback from your mentor and your university tutor. Each student will also be assigned a supervisor from the university who will meet with the student regularly (about once a month) to evaluate academic progress and guide the course of study.

    Assessment Methods

    There are two assessment strands:

    1. Every week you will be observed teaching by your mentor and, with the help of your university tutor, you will assessed against the Teachers’ Standards.
    2. You will write three essays which require you to read widely and synthesise both your views and the views of others.

    After your course

Upon course completion, you can put what have learnt into practice in the classroom, benefiting not only your career prospects, but also the generation of pupils that you are teaching.

You will be invited to the University of Buckingham in the UK to attend your graduation ceremony if you can make it.

The University of Buckingham is one of a small number of universities granted permission by the UK Government to offer the International Qualified Teacher Status qualification, providing an opportunity for those who wish to pursue this teaching qualification after completing their PGCE.

You will be awarded 60 credits for admission to a Master’s courses at the University of Buckingham if the student wishes to continue; the time period and course requirements for the Master’s degree are shortened.

    Entry requirements

    • You must have a university bachelor’s degree or equivalent. We will need to see your original degree certificate.
    • You must be employed as a teacher in an international school abroad or you have an agreement with a school that accommodates your training needs.
    • You must obtain a commitment from your school to provide a suitable mentor.
    • You will be asked to show the physical and mental fitness to teach.

The employing school must be able to fully support a candidate through the course, enabling them to demonstrate all of the UK Teachers’ Standards and releasing them for the compulsory live online training sessions.
