Eshragh Ghoodjani (MSc Applied Data Science, 2023)

As someone with an engineering background, it was always natural for me to be drawn to technology. My passion for the field only grew as I discovered the vast and exciting world of data science. With the amount of data that’s generated each day, I knew that this was a field with immense potential and opportunities. This is why I decided to pursue an MSc in Applied Data Science.

The one-year program was intense and rigorous, but I found the experience to be immensely rewarding. I learned valuable data-related skills such as programming languages, data visualization, machine learning, and data ethics. The lecturers were knowledgeable and experienced, and I found that they were always willing to help me with any questions or challenges that I faced during the course.

Apart from the academic side of things, the University also provided excellent support for career development. The Careers and Employability Service offered guidance on job applications, interview techniques, and helped me to prepare my CV and my LinkedIn profile. The University’s resources helped me to present myself in the best possible way, both on paper and in person.

One of the most exciting aspects of my degree was the opportunity to complete internships with two different companies. These experiences gave me hands-on experience with real-world problems and allowed me to apply the skills I had learned in a practical setting. It was a great way to gain some valuable experience in the field and to build connections with industry professionals. The companies I worked with were impressed with my work and I was able to secure a placement with one of them.

During my placement, I gained valuable experience in working with data in a professional setting. I worked with a company on a project. This experience gave me the opportunity to see how data science can be applied in the real world, and I was able to apply the skills I had learned during my degree. My work was appreciated, and my manager was happy with the results.

Thanks to the experience I gained during my internships and placement, I was able to secure a great job at Jaguar Land Rover soon after completing my degree. The experience I had gained gave me the skills and confidence to take on the challenges that come with working in a highly competitive industry. I’m grateful to the University for providing me with such valuable opportunities and for giving me the skills and knowledge to succeed in my career.
