Hongbo Du, Data Mining Techniques and Applications: An Introduction (Andover: Cengage Learning, 2010). 250 pp. ISBN: 978-1-84480-891-5.
Mr Hongbo Du, Lecturer in Computer Science in the Department of Applied Computing, had his first textbook published this month by Cengage Learning (previously Thomson Education Publishing). The book, Data Mining Techniques and Applications: An Introduction, is the first of its kind that primarily targets undergraduate readers from computing-related disciplines.
The book not only covers a wide range of data mining techniques for classification, clustering and association rule discovery, but also addresses practical issues in applying the techniques. The book also provides a large number of practical examples of data mining using the popular free software tool Weka.
The book is a direct result of many years of Mr Du’s teaching and research experience in the subject area. He has taught data mining not only at Buckingham but also at City University London between 1998 and 2004 and Sarajevo School of Science and Technology in 2007. Currently he is collaborating with his colleagues at Buckingham in research into applying data mining techniques for image processing.
