The Rt Hon the Lord Peter Lilley
Lord Lilley graduated in Natural Sciences followed by Economics at Clare College Cambridge. He spent several years working on Development projects in Africa and Asia before joining a City financial firm as Energy Analyst where he became a partner.
He was elected to Parliament in 1983, joining the Government as Economic Secretary to the Treasury in 1987; then served in the Cabinets of Margaret Thatcher and John Major as Secretary of State for Trade and Industry then for Social Security. In 1997 he ran for the leadership of the Conservative Party and became Shadow Chancellor and Deputy Leader. He has subsequently served on Select Committees for Energy and Climate Change and Exiting the EU. He stood down from the Commons in 2017 and was made a Peer in 2018 where he serves on the Environment and Climate Change Committee.
